One day, while speaking with Sally about the needs and wants for my students - she put a thought in motion. Apply for a grant to extend the learning of my then 4th and 5th graders. She was so enthusiastic and passionate about helping to try to level the playing field for my students. Her genuine care and concern that the kids in my classroom were not getting what other students in nearby districts were getting was heartfelt. She truly cared about my students. We worked together for weeks, researching, writing, re-writing, and finally submitting a plan that reflected a comprehensive way to help kids extend their learning. Through that collaborative process, we were approved for the grant bringing a new STEM after-school program to my school. Watching my kids as they designed and developed, researched and hypothesized, tested and succeeded was a gift that without Sally’s help would have never come to fruition. She cares about our students. She cares about the inequities she sees. She works hard to ensure that all kids have opportunities to succeed. For those reasons, I will support her in her bid to become our Colorado State Senator for District 23. I truly feel that Sally is the right choice - she knows her responsibility to our youth and to education and will work with others to create a win-win solution for all.

I'm endorsing Sally Boccella for Colorado State Senate District 23.
I met Sally in a snowstorm while volunteering together at the Weld County Mobile Food Pantry. Due to the weather, it was not an ideal place for this candidate--who regularly volunteers with the food pantry in multiple locations--to meet people. Volunteers were covered in hats & scarves and clients were driving up instead of waiting in line chatting. No matter. Sally got right to work packing up and handing out food, and it was only as we were heading back to our cars that I asked who she was and we began chatting.
I've since learned that Sally is already a dedicated public servant. She has volunteered widely, working on issues of food insecurity, education, and endangered species and with the League of Women Voters. Sally took the initiative to collect PPE for healthcare workers in northern Colorado when the coronavirus shutdowns first began. She has also worked with elected officials in the state house and will be able to really hit the ground running when elected.

Sally is a resident of Johnstown and understands firsthand the impacts of being surrounded by oil and gas development. Sally is an advocate for clean air and water and has a track record of working to protect our public health and environment. Sally has testified before both state and local governments regarding air quality and other impacts of oil and gas, and she has signed the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge. She has been very active in the SD23 community serving on school district committees, volunteering with the Weld County Food Bank, and many other community programs and initiatives. Senate District 23 has seen more than its fair share of neighborhood oil and gas development, and Sally's determination, compassion, and action-oriented leadership will make her an excellent State Senator for the community.
